Youngsters taken into the Lions Den!

Andover FC have taken on board three Spitfires in central defender Andy Puckett, right back Jack Smith and right midfielder Adam Roberts. With Adam James, Martin Thomas and Jason Dodd, Smith's chances will be limited and it is the same for the others also. All three players are on two year contracts at Eastleigh but manager Paul Doswell believes the experience of first team football will benefit them more than playing for the reserves.

EASTLEIGH V OXFORD UNITED WEDNESDAY 26TH JULY 2006 PRE SEASON FRIENDLY Eastleigh suffer a second successive defeat on the back of the Bashley 3-1 loss on Saturday. Things started off well for the Spitfires going in 1-0 at half time thanks to Dave Town’s strike but Oxford substitute Yemi Odubade came on in the second half to change the game with two good finishes to allow Jim Smith’s side to run out victors. In the third minute of the game United’s Andy Burgess found a way past Jason Dodd, who was making his home debut for Eastleigh, to go clean through on goal however Paul Musselwhite was quick to react with a strong one handed save to divert the effort. A short way into the game the home side had the ball in the back of the net although the goal did not stand as the corner kick from Dodd went out of play before Steve Forbes turned the ball in past Billy Turley in the Oxford goal. Paul Doswell’s latest capture, Jefferson Louis impressed in the early stages of the game as h

Eastleigh 2-1 Saints

EASTLEIGH V SOUTHAMPTON SATURDAY 15th JULY 2006 Pre Season Friendly This pre-season friendly between two neighbouring clubs saw the new era of Southampton Football Club kick off with a defeat to a very strong display from the Spitfires. Before kick off Dell legend Jason Dodd signed for Eastleigh in the most fitting environment – against the club where he played almost 400 games in 16 seasons of top-flight football. Inside the first minute of the game Eastleigh were playing attractive attacking football. Most notably, Darren Wheeler the tricky winger who was causing the Southampton right back problems at an early stage. His fantastic run down the left wing saw him beat Alexander Ostlund and pull the ball back for Danny Smith, however the Eastleigh captain’s effort was slightly overhit. Whilst Darren Wheeler was showing his pace and trickery for Eastleigh, the highly talented Nathan Dyer was doing much the same for the Saints. Dyer kept Ian Oliver on his toes from the off and nearly

Hampshire Chronicle Cup - 12/07/2006

WINCHESTER V EASTLEIGH WEDNESDAY 12th JULY 2006 Hampshire Chronicle Cup This years Hampshire Chronicle Cup saw Eastleigh win their first trophy of the season with a solid performance from the word go. They were rarely troubled and looked good going forward, in what was a good work out for the whole Eastleigh squad giving Paul Doswell a chance to look at other options. Eastleigh looked a threat from the off and it was Dave Town’s dipping shot from 35 yards that nearly caught the Winchester goalkeeper out as Town spotted him off his line. However it was slightly over hit and the speculative effort went just over the bar. In the ninth minute, the Spitfires were at it again. A great move involving Ryan Ashford and Steve Forbes saw the ball swung in from the right hand side to pick out the rising jump of Andy Forbes, whose header in the end, was comfortably saved. Andy Forbes and Eastleigh had another good chance ten minutes later. His snapshot on the turn was deflected into th

The signing of such a well respected, Southampton legend just goes to show that the club are going onwards and upwards! Eastleigh chairman Paul Murray said the following "This is a fantastic signing and demonstrates the new board's committment to the management team. Eastleigh 1-3 Yeovil - Pre Season Friendly

Image
EASTLEIGH V YEOVIL FRIDAY 7TH JULY 2006 Pre-Season Friendly In Eastleigh’s first ever match at the revamped Silverlake Stadium, after a summer of changes on and off the pitch the Spitfires put in a decent performance against League One opposition despite what the 1-3 scoreline might suggest. The pre-season friendly also saw the welcome return of former Spitfire, Bradley Thomas who transferred to Yeovil earlier this year. Andy Forbes may well have opened the scoring after only 3 minutes of play. Eastleigh’s top goalscorer sprinted through the Yeovil defence but overran the ball as he approached the 18 yard box. However, a sliced clearance from the goalkeeper Darren Behcet rebounded off Forbes and went just the wrong side of the post. After the home side began at a good pace, Yeovil made Ian Oliver pay for a misplaced pass across his own goal area to take the lead. Striker Daniel Webb latched on to the error and smashed the ball into the top left hand corner leaving new keep
