Peter in BSS Team of the Year

EASTLEIGH midfielder Peter Adeniyi has made the Blue Square South team of the year for 2009/2010 as voted for by Conference South managers.

Although the Spitfires fell short of expectations, finishing 11th in the table, the long-limbed Adeniyi caught the eye in midfield along with Newport County's former Salisbury favourite Wayne Turk.

The managers' top XI:

Glyn Thompson (Newport County), Paul Bignot (Newport County), Oliver Schulz (Dover Athletic), Garry Warren (Newport County), Jim Rollo (Bath City), Danny Rose (Newport County), Peter Adeniyi (Eastleigh), Wayne Turk (Newport County), Harry Arter (Woking), George Purcell (Braintree Town), Craig Reid (Newport County).

Baird to keep faith with Brown

Eastleigh manager Ian Baird has stated that he is keen on retaining the services of striker Jamie Brown.

Although Brown made just ten league and cup starts for Eastleigh in 2009/10, Baird intends to keep faith with the braveheart targetman who was dogged by ankle, knee and shoulder problems last term.

"As long as Jamie comes back in pre-season and proves his fitness he will be offered a new contract," boss Baird confirmed.

"I'm a big admirer of his."

Sam Butler and Ashley Nicholls however; both signed towards the end of last season, will not be staying with the club.

Winger Butler was offered a contract but wanted more money than the Spitfires were prepared to pay, while midfielder Nicholls was only ever viewed as an emergency signing and recently signed for fellow Blue Square Bet South side Maidenhead United. - http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/maidenheadunited/?section=clubnews&news_id=142239

Baird 'gambles' on Slabber deal

By Wendy Gee -
Eastleigh boss Ian Baird admits he has taken "a bit of a gamble" by signing striker Jamie Slabber from Blue Square Bet South rivals Woking.

Slabber, 25, and Bath City centre-back Chris Holland are the first two summer signings to be unveiled at the Silverlake Stadium.

But while Holland comes with rave reviews from his old club, having twice been named Bath's player of the season during five success-filled years at Twerton Park, ex-Tottenham youngster Slabber has it all to do to prove himself.

At 6ft 2in and with proven ability demonstrated by England under-18 and under-19 caps, Baird believes Slabber "fits the bill for Eastleigh."

But the Spitfires boss admits that, after years plagued by injury, this is a "make or break move" for the well-travelled former Grays, Stevenage and Havant & Waterlooville frontrunner, who made one Premier League appearance as a substitute for Spurs against Liverpool in March 2003, setting up a goal…
