Eastleigh bounced back from the nightmare trip to Chelmsford forty-eight hours earlier to take a deserved three points home to Maidenhead United. Brett Poate returned to the side at left back with Warren Goodhind switching flanks to the right back position with Ross Bottomley finding himself on the subs bench. There was drama to follow though not all plain sailing.

Maidenhead started the brighter of the two sides; striker Keiron St Aimie seeing Jason Matthews at his feet inside the opening two minutes. Once The Spitfires settled though it was how to find their way through the visitors defence marshalled by recent signing Jon Munday. Early drama for Eastleigh saw Matthews and Poate collide on their own penalty area as they dealt with a Maidenhead attack, which saw Poate leave the pitch with a suspected broken arm whilst Matthews was clearly uncomfortable though playing his way through till nearly the half time whistle.

A drive from the edge of the area on quarter of an hour by Richard Gillespie just cleared the bar and four minutes later from Richard Graham's corner, Chris Holland shot wide. With Eastleigh patiently building up play ironically they went ahead on twenty minutes with a ball launched straight from the defence. Holland won a defensive header following a Maidenhead clearance, the ball sailing high over the forward-moving Maidenhead defence allowing Brett Williams, played onside by the flailing left back Jamal Fyfield, to volley the ball into the roof of the net giving Maidenhead goalkeeper Steve Williams no chance.

Williams added a second goal ninety seconds later. Inside the area on the bye line, Jamie Slabber picked out an inch-perfect delicately chipped cross for Williams to surge in front of his defender and head home goal number two.

Matthews was back-pedalling to turn a Sam Collins cross-cum-shot against his own bar on twenty-five minutes whilst a minute later Alex Wall did have the ball in the back of the net but was the subject of an offside decision.

Williams produced a fine stop to deny Slabber on fifty-two minutes but six minutes later Eastleigh added a third goal to end the game as a contest. Will Hendry improving with every game, laid the ball off to allow Gillespie to fire home his first goal of the season.

There were very few chances as the game progressed, the best one of the evening falling to Maidenhead substitute Kieran Knight on seventy-nine minutes who headed wide when well placed. The game played its way through to an end helped by referee Mr R Corp who allowed the game to flow.
