Match preview - Bromley v Eastleigh

By Kieran James

Ian Baird's Spitfires play Bromley at Hayes Lane on Saturday in the Blue Square Bet South.

With other results not going Eastleigh's way on Monday, Spitfires fans finally found out that the play-off dream was no longer possible even though the result at The Silverlake Stadium was a 3-0 Eastleigh triumph.

The Spitfires took the lead 40 seconds into the game with Danny Smith scoring his second goal of the season, Tony Taggart crossed the ball from a corner and Danny Smith flicked a header in to the back of the net.

Jamie Brown started for the first time this season and the former Dorchester Town striker scored an unstoppable header for his first goal of the season from a Richard Graham corner in the 39th minute.

Tony Taggart scored the last goal of the game right on the stroke of half time. Richard Graham crossed in a free kick and the former Havant and Waterlooville left winger headed the ball to make it 3-0 to The Spitfires.

Bromley sit in 10th place twelve points behind The Spitfires with 59 points having spent the first quarter of the season looking like the runaway leaders in the Blue Square Bet South.

The Lillywhites comes into this game having lost 2-0 on Monday against play-off candidates Chelmsford City away.

Bromley have won three, lost two and drawn one. The Spitfires have lost four and have won two coming in to this game.

Bromley have failed to score eleven times (five of them being at home) and have kept four clean sheets (one of them being at home) in their last twenty games.

Eastleigh have failed to score five times (one of them being away) and have kept five clean sheets (three of them being away).

The last time these two teams met was at The Silverlake Stadium last month where The Spitfires came out victorious with a 1-0 win - on loan Mark Nwokeji scored the only only goal of the game. Tony Taggart crossed in a free kick for Tommy Jordan to nod the ball down for Mark Nwokeji where the AFC Wimbledon player pounced on the loose ball with a close range effort; he has since returned to his parent club.

The last time these two met at Hayes Lane was last season where Bromley won 3-0. Former Spitfires Ashley Carew (currently plays for Ebbsfleet United) and Warren McBean both netted for Bromley and Marcus Cassius (Currently plays for Erith and Belverder) made it 3-0 to the Lillywhites on that occasion.

This is the last chance to see The Spitfires play this season so roar on The Spitfires away at Bromley, COME ON YOU SPITFIRES!
