Eastleigh v Weston-super-Mare - Match Preview

Match Preview by Kieran James

Ian Baird's Spitfires finally secured the win his side deserved this season after a fine 3-1 away victory to former Eastleigh defender Ashley Vickers' Dorchester Town at the Avenue Stadium.

There were few Eastleigh chances in the first half and with Dorchester having most of the possession and Gareth Barfoot making some important saves; it was looking likely that the Magpies would convert one of their chances. It took 34 minutes before Ryan Moss got on the end of a cross to head in the opening goal of the game.

The second half came and the Spitfires looked like a new team. Jamie Slabber put in a good cross to Jordace Holder-Spooner from the halfway line, and the former Southampton winger made no mistake with a fine strike on goal to level the score.

Former Reading and Gillingham striker Andrew White then turned on the class for Eastleigh with two great finishes, which sealed Eastleigh's first win in the Blue Square Bet South this season.

The Spitfires now play Weston-super-Mare on bank holiday Monday to try and keep their good run going at the Silverlake Stadium (3pm kick off).

The Seagulls have had a mixed start to the season having lost 0-4 at home to Dartford and 4-1 away to Basingstoke Town, however they beat Thurrock away 3-0 and Eastleigh's Hampshire rivals Havant and Waterlooville 3-1 before a 2-0 home victory over Salisbury City.

Weston-super-Mare's Marcus Duharty and Brett Trowbridge are both ruled out for this game as well as Eastleigh's Ross Bottomley who is still suffering from a twisted ankle.

Jamie Brown and on-loan left back from Reading Frankie Raymond start their three match ban on Saturday against Bromley so they will be available for this match.

The last time these two teams met was at the Woodspring Stadium in the Blue Square Bet South. Richard Graham scored the first on that day with Ross Bottomley powering home a header from a Tony Taggart cross to make it 0-2 for the Spitfires on that occasion.

However the last time these two teams met at the Silverlake Stadium, Richard Graham opened the scoring before Havant and Waterlooville's Chris Holland scored an own goal and the match finished 1-1.

Lets hope The Spitfires carry on their impressive recent form and earn three valauble points against the Seagulls. COME ON YOU SPITFIRES!
