Breimyr flies out as loan spell ends

By Wendy Gee

EASTLEIGH have seen the last of teenage midfielder/defender Henrik Breimyr - at least for the time being.

Having spent the best part two months on loan at the Silverlake Stadium from npower League Two outfit Aldershot Town, the 18-year-old is off to Cyprus to represent Norway in the UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifiers.

Breimyr, whose loan is due to end yesterday, was not eligible to face Oxford City in the FA Cup anyway because Aldershot did not want him cup-tied.

He will now fly to Cyprus with Norway on Monday ready for games against Cyprus (October 21), Latvia (October 23) and Iceland (October 26).

Stavanger-born Breimyr, who has made nine appearances for Eastleigh in the Blue Square Bet South, received his first call-up for Norway towards the end of last season when he featured for their under-18 squad in the Slovakia cup. He played in all four games, including the final against Denmark, and his talents earned him a two-year contract with the Shots.

This latest call-up is a significant achievement because he is the only squad member to be playing his football outside Norway. Having learned his trade in England, his progress has been closely monitored by the Norwegian Football Association.

Aldershot boss Dean Holdsworth said: "This is a fantastic accolade for Henrik and the club.

"He has been playing first-team football week in, week out (with Eastleigh) and his fitness levels are high, which will benefit him.

"I hope that it is a great experience for him and that there are more opportunities in the future."

A delighted Breimyr smiled: "It is great to be called up and to be recognised. This is massive for the development  of my career. It means everything to me to play for my country."

Eastleigh boss Ian Baird might well explore the possibility of loaning Breimyr again when the tall, powerful teenager returns from international duty.

He must also speak to Holdsworth about winger Graeme Montgomery whose month's loan from Aldershot ran out today.
