Farnborough v Eastleigh - Match Preview

Ian Baird’s Spitfires will play Farnborough tomorrow at the Rushmoor Stadium away in the Blue Square Bet South (3pm kick off). 

 

Last weekend Eastleigh played Maidenhead United and ran out 4-1 winners at the Silverlake Stadium.

Jamie Slabber opened the scoring with his seventh goal of the season after Tom Jordan flicked the ball on from a corner and the former Tottenham Hotspur striker made no mistake with the finish.

Eastleigh were in cruise control after the opening goal and on loan winger Graeme Montgomery finished off a well-worked goal with a fine volley to double the lead.

Chris Flood, on loan from Dorchester Town, made his debut and was denied by the woodwork however his header rebounded nicely for Jamie Slabber who fired home his eighth goal of the season for Eastleigh in all competitions to make it 3-0.

Daniel Brown pulled a goal back for the visitors early in the second half with a thunderous strike from 30-yards to find the top corner.

Eastleigh and Chris Flood had the last say as they destroyed any chance of a comeback from the Magpies late in the game. Flood's cool finish was the perfect way to end the game and seal an emphatic 4-1 win, which lifted Eastleigh to 14th in the Blue Square Bet South.

Farnborough on the other hand are on a six game losing streak in the league having conceded 25 goals in six matches.

The Yellows' last game finished 1-3 to Chelmsford City with Reece Connolly scoring the only goal for Farnborough on that occasion.

Farnborough have only won two games this season at home and have lost six, scoring only five goals and conceding 17 goals in the league.

The Spitfires' away record is similar having only won two games and lost six - they have scored seven goals and conceded 19 on the road this season.

The last time these two teams met was at the Silverlake Stadium when Farnborough pulled off a 0-3 victory with goals from Michael Malcolm and a brace from Paul Booth.

At the Rushmoor Stadium in 2010/2011, the Spitfires won 1-2 and damaged The Yellows' ten game unbeaten run at home last season.

Bradley Bubb opened the scoring for the Yellows with a low shot just getting past Eastleigh goalkeeper Gareth Barfoot.

Eastleigh’s captain Tom Jordan equalised for The Spitfires with a powerful header from a Tony Taggart  corner.

Taggart, creator of the equaliser, then secured Eastleigh three important points with a powerful low drive on goal.

Gareth Barfoot denied a Farnborough equaliser when Bradley Bubb fired a 35-yard half volley. The former AFC Totton stopper pulled off a magnificent acrobatic save to keep Eastleigh’s 1-2 win secure, which could easily be considered as Eastleigh’s best away win in the 2010/2011 season.

This is going to be a great match to watch, so get to the Rushmoor Stadium tomorrow to roar on the Spitfires to a third straight win.
