Ian Baird’s Spitfires suffered back to back league defeats on Saturday which all but certainly destroyed their promotion push this season.

Dover opened the scoring after much possession from Eastleigh. A corner was flown in for the unmarked Billy Bricknell to fire into an empty net after Jack Dovey made a rare mistake in failing to claim the ball.

Just five minutes later, Bradley Bubb latched onto a tackle from Chris Flood and the on loan Aldershot striker returned it to Flood and the winger tucked the ball away past Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz to equalise.

Eastleigh’s joy only lasted for three minutes when Dover’s Barry Cogan whipped a free kick in from the left wing and some how found the back of the net leaving on loan Southampton goalkeeper Jack Dovey left standing.

Three minutes after the break, The Whites doubled their advantage. Billy Bricknell claimed his brace after a long ball by Donovan Simmonds found the striker who took it round the incoming Dovey and finished superbly after pressure from centre back Gary Elphick.

With twenty minutes to go manager Ian Baird handed Lee Peacock his debut for Eastleigh after signing on a non-contract basis a couple of days before the match. The former Havant and Waterlooville striker popped up with a header from a Chris Flood corner to reduce the deficit.

Eastleigh’s late pressure was not enough and The Whites claimed all three points at The Silverlake Stadium. The Spitfires now take on 8th placed Tonbridge Angels again at The Silverlake Stadium on tonight (7:45pm kick off).

This game was originally supposed to be played last month however the game was called off due to a frozen pitch.

The Angels' play-off push is all but over, however they did manage to beat Truro City at home last Saturday. Goals from former Gillingham striker and the leagues top goalscorer with 25 goals Frannie Collins, Mikel Suarez and Lee Browning.

The last time these two teams met was a day to forget for The Spitfires at The Longmead Stadium. Goals from Jake Beecroft, Lee Browning and a brace from Fran Collin secured all three points on a day where Jamie Brown and at the time on-loan Reading defender Frankie Raymond both got sent off.

Going into this game the Spitfires fans received news that Jamie Slabber, last season's top goalscorer with 25 goals, has agreed a deal with fellow Blue Square Bet South side Chelmsford City and subject to a medical the former Tottenham Hotspur striker will be on his way out from The Silverlake Stadium.

Eastleigh Football Club are delighted to announce Richard Hill as their new first team manager, with immediate effect. Richard will be introduced to the players and staff tomorrow evening and will take charge of his first match on Saturday against Maidenhead.
