Eastleigh snap up Sankofa

Eastleigh Football Club is delighted to announce securing the signature of Boreham Wood’s Osei Sankofa as Spitfire’s boss Ian Baird continues to do his summer spending early.

Defender Sankofa, 27, has agreed personal terms and joins the Spitfires on an initial one year deal.

Manager Ian Baird commented: “Osei fits the profile of the player we are looking to attract. He is young, strong, athletic and had a really good season last year at Boreham Wood. I have kept tabs on him for some time, having him watched several times and I watched him myself. He is a player with a good pedigree and I'm pleased to have secured his signature”.

Talking about the season ahead, Ian continued: “We are trying to get a good blend of experience and youth and create a really good environment next year where players are judged on merits and form”.

6 foot Sankofa was born and raised in London. A promising youngster he represented England at Under 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 levels having joined the famed youth setup at Charlton Athletic. He made his first team debut for the Addicks in the 4-1 defeat to Manchester United in the 2002-2003 season and went on to make 15 first team appearances for the club. Struggling for first team action and having had loan spells at both Bristol City and Brentford he joined Southend United on a free transfer in the summer of 2008 – linking up with current Eastleigh star Damian Scannell. The defender who can play anywhere across the back played 39 times in 2 years for the Essex club before signing for Farnborough for the 2010-2011 season and Boreham Wood last year.

Stay tuned to the Eastleigh FC website as a very busy Ian Baird may have another announcement or two imminently!
