FIVE-STAR COUNTY LAND AWARD FOR BOSS EDINBURGH


Newport County manager Justin Edinburgh has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier ‘manager of the month’ for August. The former Tottenham defender has overseen a huge transformation in South Wales as County top the table, having been in the relegation places exactly a year ago. Edinburgh’s side have won all five of their opening matches, including a 4-3 win at title second-favourites Mansfield Town on the opening day. County rounded off the month in style with a 2-0 home win over Hereford United to sit three points clear in the early table.

In the Blue Square Bet North the ‘manager of the month’ award for August goes to Brackley Town manager Jon Brady. Brackley have shown no fear in their first season at this level as they sit comfortably in the top three with two other teams showing a 100% record. Brady’s side signalled their intentions with a 4-1 win at promotion contenders Altrincham on the opening weekend and rounded the month off in style with a 4-0 demolition of local rivals Corby Town on their own patch.

The Blue Square Bet South ‘manager of the month’ for August goes to Darrell Clarke from Salisbury City. The Whites are back at the top of the South division six seasons after winning the play-offs to gain a place in Non-League’s top-flight. A long journey back to the summit has started well this season under Clarke who has seen his side take three wins and a draw from their first four matches.

O’CONNOR MAKES IT A NEWPORT DOUBLE WITH PLAYER AWARD

Aaron O’Connor from Newport County has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier ‘player of the month’ for August. O’Connor has flourished back under the management of Justin Edinburgh, who scooped the award in the manager category to make it a Newport double. The striker has helped County to a 100% start in the division with goals in four of their five matches. O’Connor took his tally to six for the month with an injury-time goal which sealed a 2-0 win over local rivals Hereford United. The former Luton forward also picked up braces in both the Nuneaton away game and the 2-1 home victory over Lincoln. He got off the mark for the season with the all-important third goal in The Exiles’ 4-3 win at another of his former clubs Mansfield on the opening day.

In the Blue Square Bet North the ‘player of the month’ for August is Gavin Rothery from Guiseley. The striker has found his way on to the scoresheet in all four games for his side so far this season. Helping Steve Kittrick’s team to a 100% record. Rothery ended the month with both goals in the 2-0 home victory over Gainsborough Trinity and then went on to complete a 2-0 win for his side at Workington with the second goal in that game.

The Blue Square Bet South ‘player of the month’ for August is Charlie O’Loughlin from Boreham Wood. The central-defender was an ever present in four games which saw Ian Allinson’s side concede just once. O’Loughlin scored the crucial equalising goal at AFC Hornchurch and also helped his side to clean sheets against title favourites Eastleigh and promotion contenders Chelmsford City and Hayes & Yeading United.

Eastleigh Football Club are delighted to announce Richard Hill as their new first team manager, with immediate effect. Richard will be introduced to the players and staff tomorrow evening and will take charge of his first match on Saturday against Maidenhead. Richard is vastly experienced having managed Stevenage Borough and assisted John Gregory at both Wycombe and QPR, Brian Little at Aston Villa and also fulfilled the same roles at Gillingham, Tranmere Rovers and Northampton Town.
