Blue Square Monthly Awards - September 2012

DARK HORSE DARTS SCOOP AWARD FOR BOSS BURMAN

Dartford manager Tony Burman has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier ‘manager of the month’ for September. The Kent side have found their feet in Non-League’s top-flight with a fantastic few weeks taking 16 points from a possible 21 in the period. A 2-1 home win over early leaders Newport County was one of the highlights, but they also drew 2-2 at last season’s runners-up Wrexham. Their fifth win of an incredible month came on Saturday when they beat Hyde 2-1 to move into the play-off zone. Having been one of the favourites for relegation they have now seen those odds drift out to 8/1 whilst their title odds have plummeted from a high of 400/1 in to just 40/1!

In the Blue Square Bet North the ‘manager of the month’ award for September goes to Brackley Town manager Jon Brady. The young Australian boss makes it an early season double with his side having helped him take the August honours too. Brackley remain unbeaten for the season and have only dropped two points during the whole league campaign so far. Brady’s side have scored 16 goals in 6 matches during the period and remain top of the league as well as progressing to the next round of the FA Cup with a 4-0 win over local rivals Daventry.

The Blue Square Bet South ‘manager of the month’ for September goes to Phil Simkin from Dorchester Town. Simkin’s side continue to match the pace set by league leaders Salisbury City and show no sign of dropping away after a fantastic 2-1 win on Saturday at home to one of the pre-season promotion favourites Welling United. In fact their last five wins in the division have come against sides from the top eight in the pre-season title betting. They have seen their own title price tumble to just 14/1 from 50/1 in the space of the first two months of the season. Dorchester also progressed to the next round of the FA Cup during the period with a 4-0 victory over Wootton Bassett Town.

POND A BIG FISH FOR MARINERS AS THEY SET SIGHTS ON PROMOTION

Nathan Pond from Grimsby Town has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier ‘player of the month’ for September. The classy defender contributed to his team’s cause with two fine goals and a hand in five clean-sheets during the period. Pond, on loan from last season’s champions Fleetwood Town, found the winning goal for Grimsby in their promotion clash with Forest Green Rovers and also scored in the recent 3-0 win over Gateshead. The Mariners sit one place and one point outside the play-off zone as they look to make a return to the Football League.

In the Blue Square Bet North the ‘player of the month’ for September is Damian Reeves from Altrincham. Last season’s top-scorer in the division produced an outstanding month with a phenomenal 12 goals in just six appearances. With his side experiencing an upturn in form coinciding with his hot-streak Alty sit just outside the play-off zone in the division. Reeves scored all four goals in the away win at Gainsborough Trinity and also hit two in the FA Cup to steer his team through to the next round.

The Blue Square Bet South ‘player of the month’ for September is Pierre Joseph-Dubois from Bromley. The striker has scored six times in as many matches for The Lillywhites during the period. With three of those proving decisive in 1-0 wins over Truro City and Bath City in the league and away at Sutton United in the FA Cup. The former Hayes & Yeading forward also bagged a brace in the 4-0 home victory over Hornchurch which kick-started Bromley’s rise up the league table.
