New Eastleigh signing "throws further than Rory Delap"

HE was a Conference winner with Barnet and creates all manner of havoc with a throw longer than ex-Saint Rory Delap's. Small wonder that Eastleigh manager Martin Allen was so keen to link up again with the Spitfires' latest signing Sam Muggleton.

Eastleigh 4-4 Bromley

Paul McCallum bagged a hattrick for Eastleigh in a rollercoaster 4-4 draw against Bromley at the Silverlake Stadium.

Richard Hill's reaction: “There’s been times when I’ve been accused of not entertaining people, but today we have – both teams.

“It was one of those crazy, crazy games you get two or three times a season.

“But today you’ve seen two teams that need to defend better. Most definitely my team need to defend better.

“We’ve had to score four goals to draw a game of football at home.

“For the first 25 minutes, we probably played as well as we have all season and there were spells in the second half when we played some decent, flowing football, but we can’t defend like that.

“Brett (Williams) has come on and changed the game, but we were always going to face a bit of an onslaught from them and we didn’t handle it well enough, we really didn’t.

“But then give us a bit of credit for fighting back twice.”

Eastleigh triumph over Hawks in Hampshire derby

EASTLEIGH 3-2 HAVANT & WATERLOOVILLE

TUESDAY 7th FEBRUARY 2012
Blue Square Bet South
Match report by Jamie Montigue

Eastleigh triumphed in a five-goal Hampshire derby encounter to see off Havant & Waterlooville by three goals to two.

526 braved the freezing cold temperatures and it was the Spitfires who left the game with all three points thanks to another good showing at the Silverlake Stadium.

Ian Baird's Spitfires are on an excellent run of form at home in the league - this latest victory seeing Eastleigh make it 10 games without defeat on home turf in the Blue Square South.

Making just one change to the side who comfortably saw off Sutton United this time last week with a 4-0 demolition; Eastleigh brought Danny Smith into the starting eleven in place of Philip Appiah (hamstring injury). Gary Elphick was missing from the squad due to illness.

In a flying start to the game, DARYL McMAHON opened his account for Eastleigh with his first goal for the club with just four …

Eastleigh 1-1 Southampton

EASTLEIGH v SOUTHAMPTON

SATURDAY 4th JULY 2009
Pre-Season Friendly
Report by Jamie Montigue

As Southampton Football Club’s future remains in the balance with takeover talks hopefully coming to a welcome conclusion early next week, Mark Wotte brought a 22-man squad to the Silverlake Stadium to face former Saint, Ian Baird’s Eastleigh.

It has been a torrid few months for the St. Mary’s club since relegation from the Championship. Going into administration brought further bad news, that of a ten point deduction heading into League One this coming season. Takeover talks have been a frustrating experience for the fans with no deal yet being agreed, however it is thought a deal could be wrapped up imminently.

Here at Eastleigh, the club as a whole were thrilled the friendly went ahead, a pre-season fixture that has been a regular event/tradition in years past, and would like to wish the Saints all the very best as they look to rebuild and get back to happier days.

On the pitch, today’s game in t…

McSheffrey signs for Eastleigh

Eastleigh have signed 35-year-old Gary McSheffrey until January.

"I've got a couple of friends here who have been nothing but impressed with the set-up," he told BBC Radio Solent.

"It's definitely an ambitious place and hopefully we can get the club to where they want to be."

McSheffrey began his professional career with Coventry City, and has previously played for Stockport County, Luton Town, Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United before returning to Coventry in 2010. Released in September 2013, he signed for Chesterfield later that month. In January 2014, he signed for Scunthorpe United on a free transfer until the end of the 2013–14 season. McSheffrey has played internationally for England three times at both under-18 and under-20 level
